Decorating a Flower Pot with Crochet Edging

Decorating a flower pot with crochet edging is another way to brighten up plain flower pots. Crochet three rows of double crochet stitches around the rim of the pot. Attach the crocheted “rim” to the pot using rubber glue for plastic pots, and PVA glue for unglazed clay pots.

Apply a few drops of rubber glue to the surface of the pot and start wrapping the pot with thread, without stretching it, pressing the thread onto the surface of the pot. As you move along the pot, add a little glue and continue wrapping the thread.

When you reach the end, apply a generous amount of glue to the last inch. Let it dry for a couple of minutes, then wrap another layer of thread—carefully, thread by thread. It’s not necessary to glue the first layer of thread, only where you will secure the last wrap.

For clay pots, use PVA glue to attach the thread, and rubber glue for the decorative elements.

Crochet an ornament in freeform technique or any other motifs of your choice, and glue them on.

It takes no more than 3 hours. You can decorate even a tin can using this method—it makes for a very striking vase!
