I previously wrote about the chemical composition and benefits of sage. Now let’s try to apply its beneficial properties in self-care. Sage is particularly popular in cosmetology, all thanks to its strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Sage takes care of mature, oily, and aging skin, and is not contraindicated for dry types when combined with moisturizing components. In general, sage is extremely beneficial when taken internally, especially for women during the climateric period. The phytohormones it contains help the female body adapt to a different level of metabolism and stabilize emotional well-being.
Sage for the Face
A very useful and pleasant procedure is to wipe the face and neck with a herbal ice cube. One tablespoon of dried sage steeped in 500 ml of boiling water, allowed to cool, and then frozen without straining will create a rejuvenating and invigorating ice cube. This procedure restores skin elasticity, promotes blood flow in small capillaries and vessels, tightens pores, thereby mechanically pushing out sebaceous plugs. You can make herbal ice with any herb of your choice.
Sage lotion for dry skin. This recipe makes enough for 3-4 days. Pour 2 teaspoons of sage with 200 ml of boiling water, let it steep for 30 minutes, do not strain, and add 2 tablespoons of cream (10-15%). Store in the refrigerator and use it to wipe your face morning and evening after washing. For oily skin, make this infusion without cream and add calendula. I do not recommend making lotions with alcohol as oily skin can quickly become an even greater source of problems that require serious treatment.
If you practice steam baths, add sage to the water - it helps open the pores more effectively, and inflammation and pimples heal faster. Sage is particularly effective against bacterial skin infections, such as staphylococcus, which is often encountered with teenage acne and pimples.
After the steam bath, use a salt scrub (not suitable for skin with inflamed elements), and after cleansing, a natural mask suitable for your skin type would be ideal. The article Herb Masks provides details on the right base components for masks and several proven recipes.
You can enhance any skincare product with sage essential oil .
Sage for Hair
Hair benefits from rinsing with sage and nettle. Sage effectively treats oily seborrhea, and its phytoncides and phytohormones positively influence the hair follicle, preventing premature graying. The simplest remedy for hair with sage is to add a few drops of essential oil to a ready-made hair mask or conditioner. You can make a mask from an egg yolk and several drops of sage oil - rinse the mask off after an hour with warm water.
