Yeast Fertilizer

Baker’s yeast is an excellent vitamin supplement, a well-known feed additive, and a natural fertilizer. Yeast fertilizer is rich in B vitamins and amino acids, and as it dissolves, yeast fungi release biotin, vitamin H, and other beneficial substances. Overall, yeast stimulates the production of plant phytohormones, enhances tissue regeneration, and promotes growth.

Additionally, the soil has its own microflora, and yeast fungi will serve as food for it. Organic matter forms vital nitrogen and phosphorus. Seedlings treated with yeast solution grow less leggy and root better. Some practices even replace the growth stimulant Heteroauxin with yeast.

Apply yeast solution to sun-warmed pots, as yeast fungi become active at temperatures starting from 15°C. Water seedlings with two leaves with yeast solution and reapply when it’s time to transplant or repot.

I found information suggesting that adding ash with yeast can compensate for potassium loss. However, ash can suppress soil microflora, so I believe using a standard universal fertilizer should be sufficient.

Yeast Fertilizer Recipe

You can use any type of yeast—dry, compressed, or active. For a small garden or windowsill, use the following proportions for 1 liter of warm water: a teaspoon of dry yeast (or a 1cm x 1cm cube of compressed yeast) and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit in a warm place for 2 hours.

Natural yeast from wheat sourdough:

Soak a cup of wheat in warm water for a day. Blend it, add a tablespoon of sugar and a bit of flour, mix, heat in a boiling water bath for a few minutes, and place in a warm spot. It will take about two days for fermentation to start. Once the mixture starts to bubble, the sourdough with natural yeast is ready. Use a teaspoon of sourdough for 1 liter of warm water. Let it sit and use it.

Rooting Solution for Cuttings with Yeast

For 1 liter of warm water, use half a teaspoon of yeast. Soak cuttings for a day, then transfer them to clean water. Roots will appear soon.
