How to Grow Savory from Seeds in a Pot on a Windowsill

You can grow savory from seeds in a pot on your windowsill. The aroma of savory leaves is a mix of marjoram, thyme, and oregano with a slightly spicy taste. Growing savory at home is not difficult—its seeds germinate well and sprout quickly (within 10 days at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius). grow savory from seeds in a pot on a windowsill

Savory is an annual plant. Only the Winter variety is perennial. The aroma of savory is so intense that one plant is enough for the entire season. All savory needs for normal growth is light, good watering, nutrient-rich light soil, and a small pot with adequate drainage.

If you want fresh greens in winter, sow savory by no later than August. It requires plenty of sunlight to grow strong and lush. To encourage more branching and prevent elongation, pinch or cut back the tall shoots.

Monitor soil moisture—do not let the soil dry out. savory in a pot

Plant the seeds no deeper than half a centimeter. Keep the pot under a plastic cover until the first sprouts appear. When the sprouts grow taller, add more soil to the pot. The plant may also require support.

Fertilizing savory is not necessary, but if you plant seeds in the same soil a second time, you will need mineral fertilizers and vermicompost.

As a spice, savory is perfect for Italian dishes such as lasagna, spaghetti, sauces, rice, and pizza. If you can’t consume all the fresh greens in time, feel free to dry them—it adds an interesting flavor. Savory also has a number of beneficial properties.
